Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and House Of Acid Ltd, of Number 24, Cheshire CH61 3XW, United Kingdom, for the use of the NoteEight app and website. Contact us at info@houseofacid.com.
What NoteEight is
A handwritten to-do list for iPad, and a website for reading and editing the notes you have chosen to sync. It needs an iPad and an Apple Pencil, on iPadOS 18 or later.
Your account
You sign in with your email address and a code we send you. Keep access to that mailbox secure: anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. You must be at least 13 to hold an account, and if you are under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission before buying a subscription.
Your notes are yours
You keep every right in what you write. We claim no ownership over your notes or your handwriting, and we do not read them, mine them, sell them, or use them to train anything. We store and transmit them for one reason only: so we can show them back to you.
What you may not do
- Use NoteEight for anything unlawful.
- Try to reach another person's account or data.
- Attempt to defeat the limits of the plan you are on.
- Resell or redistribute the service.
Plans and payment
The free plan keeps unlimited notes on your iPad and syncs three of them. Pro removes the sync limit for £2.99 a month. Pro is not yet available to buy; this section describes it for when it is.
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through your App Store account. Payment is taken when you subscribe and renews automatically each month until you cancel. Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple account settings, at least 24 hours before it renews. We never see or hold your payment details.
Cancelling
You may stop using NoteEight at any time. Cancelling a subscription stops the next payment; it does not delete your notes. If your plan lapses while more notes are syncing than the free plan allows, those notes keep syncing and keep receiving edits — you simply cannot add another until you are back under the limit. We do not delete your work because you stopped paying.
If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU you have a legal right to cancel a purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. Because Pro is bought through the App Store, that right is exercised through Apple: request a refund from your Apple account, or through Apple's Report a Problem page. Apple handles the refund under its own process, and this does not affect your statutory rights.
Availability
We try to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Your notes live on your iPad first, which is the point: if syncing or this website is unavailable, your notes are still with you.
Backups
Syncing is not a backup service. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. The app can export a note.
Ending an account
You can ask us to close your account and delete everything associated with it at info@houseofacid.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and will tell you why where we lawfully can.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected. Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim connected with NoteEight is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for lost profits, lost business, or for the loss of notes you have not kept your own copy of.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new date, and where the change affects a paid subscription we will tell you before it takes effect.
